Qatar Exchange May Offer ETFs In 2011

The Qatar Exchange may begin trading bonds, sukuk and ETFs in the first quarter of next year.

The Qatar Exchange may begin trading bonds, sukuk and ETFs in the first quarter of next year, Reuters reports. It is also expecting to increase foreign ownership limit in companies to 49 percent from 25 percent, and implement short selling, adds Bloomberg.

The Persian Gulf bourse is looking to introduce derivatives trading and attain index provider MSCI’s designation as an emerging market, said Saif Al-Mansoori, the exchange’s deputy CEO. Currently, MSCI classifies Qatar as a frontier market.
