For the past two years, Alonso Aramburú captained Santander’s top-ranked crew. The New York–based researcher moved to BTG Pactual in December and leads that firm’s two-analyst team to second place this year. In January the duo initiated coverage of Credicorp with a buy rating on the American depositary receipts, at $78.09. The holding company of Peru’s biggest lender and second-largest insurer, Credicorp was well positioned to benefit from that country’s brisk recovery and recently upgraded creditworthiness, the pair predicted. Sure enough, Credicorp’s profits surged, and by late July the ADRs had jumped 25.1 percent, to $97.72. “Alonso provides solid research,” observes one grateful supporter.
