Brewer Investment Group has hired William Turner as chief compliance officer in Chicago for its investment adviser and broker/dealer businesses. Turner, who was the Florida-based regional head of Allstate Financial Services before retiring in March 2008, began as CCO of Brewer Financial Services and Brewer Investment Advisors on Nov. 16. He took over from Eugene Travis, who has left the firm, and reports to Mark Olson, president of Brewer Investment Group.

At Allstate, Turner oversaw compliance and supervision in his region, he told CR. Earlier in his career, he served as an NASD examiner and was involved in the creation of the Nasdaq Stock Market.

Matthew Lovett also joined Brewer in Chicago in November to take on the new position of compliance principal for the B/D and adviser businesses. He reports to Turner. Prior to joining Brewer, Lovett was a compliance officer for Waterstone Financial Group, a former affiliate of LPL Financial that has since been integrated into the larger structure. He left Waterstone in September.

Travis could not be located for comment. An LPL spokesman declined to comment.
