Chris Gate, who departed Tudor Investment Corp. this spring, launched his newly-named firm’s first fund Friday. London-based Oceanwood Capital Management was authorized as an investment manager by the U.K.'s Financial Services Authority on Aug. 10. It was said to be seeking registered investment advisor status with the Securities and Exchange Commission (AIN, 4/23), but at press time neither Gate nor Oceanwood were listed on the SEC’s Investment Adviser Registration Depository Web site. Gate did not comment by press time.

Besides Gate, the FSA Register lists Luke Lynch and Modassir Ali as Oceanwood employees. Lynch is listed as a partner responsible for compliance oversight and anti-money laundering reporting. Ali is responsible for customer trading, according to the FSA Register. Both were previously at Tudor.

Gate’s career at Tudor began in 2001. Previously, he was at Barclays Global Investors as head of European proprietary trading and at Bankers Trust as head of U.K. arbitrage trading.
