Citigroup Private Bank Europe has snagged Ernest Boles, previously ceo of Bank Morgan Stanley AG in Switzerland, as cio for Europe effective July 3--a newly-minted position.

Citigroup Private Bank Europe has snagged Ernest Boles, previously ceo of Bank Morgan Stanley AG in Switzerland, as cio for Europe effective July 3--a newly-minted position. The addition is part of Citi’s plans to further develop its European onshore offerings and tap into the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Boles, who is on gardening leave and could not be reached, will be in charge of all investment strategies and investment teams made up of 80 professionals throughout Europe, said a spokeswoman.

Citi currently has a presence in the U.K., Spain, Italy, Greece and Switzerland, but also services clients in Central and Eastern Europe and Russia. Based in London, Boles reports dually to Marianne Hay, ceo of Citi Global Wealth Management Europe, and Paul Guidone, cio of GWM.

Boles, who joined Morgan seven years ago, was also head of advisory solutions for the PWM unit in Europe and the Middle East. Prior to Morgan Stanley, he was with J.P. Morgan in New York and Geneva culminating as head of generational planning and wealth advisory services in Europe and the Middle East.
