It has occurred to someone at HBO that a situation comedy centering on a hedge fund manager is a good idea for a TV series. Daily Variety reports that Doug Ellin, creator of the HBO series Entourage, which tracks the Hollywood life of a young star and his pals, is looking into a similar series about hedge funds. Ellin calls the currently unnamed show a “mature version” of the same idea, focusing instead on a 40ish hedge fund trader and his circle of friends. Sounds like lots of laughs there. Ellin, who told Daily Variety, that he hit upon the idea after realizing some of his college pals were now pocketing up to $50 million a year. “I wanted to do a show that deals with these men who are making obscene amounts of money at a young age. It’s a comedy, but will be more mature than Entourage.” Ellin says the characters will deal with “grown-up issues such as marriage, getting older and working within the professional ranks,” and how oodles of money – the nouveau-riche kind – can affect relationships.” Sounds like a scream. Stay tuned for more yucks from the funny world of hedgies.
