Judge Tells Grasso and Spitzer To Settle Out Of Court

New York State Supreme Court Justice Charles Ramos is urging New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer and former New York Stock Exchange Chairman Richard Grasso to settle their dispute over Grasso’s compensation outside of court, declaring the case “begs for a settlement.”

New York State Supreme Court Justice Charles Ramos is urging New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer and former New York Stock Exchange Chairman Richard Grasso to settle their dispute over Grasso’s compensation outside of court, declaring the case “begs for a settlement.” According to The New York Post, the comment came as the judge, who said a trial would “not do anyone any good,” denied a motion by NYSE lawyers to postpone the case from October to next February because of a scheduling conflict, a notion the judge called “ridiculous” given that Ramos says “the firm must have over a thousand lawyers” available to handle the case. While Spitzer indicated he was open to settlement talks, The Post reports, a lawyer for Grasso suggested that his client feels “very strongly” he would be vindicated at trial.
