Bank of Thailand‘s Governor M. R. Pridiyathorn Devakula expressed confidence that domestic major banks need not merge with foreign investor groups, as their financials remained strong. Devakula was reacting to news that negotiations between some local banks and foreign investors for possible joint ventures were in progress. Devakula said that local commercial banks still had strong financial status and enjoyed continued profits, and was optimistic that the banks’ performance would remain favorable in the next three years.
