Less than two weeks after its fellow German bank HVB Group settled charges over taxable shelters, Deutsche Bank reportedly is in talks with the Department of Justice to do the same. Whether DB will meet with similar results remains to be seen, The New York Times reports, as Deutsche's role in devising some of the shelters and the associated transactions were bigger than those of HVB, which agreed to pay $29.6 million to settle charges. Also, according to The Times, complicating matters is the fact that apparently Deutsche Bank has not been able to produce paper documents of some of the transactions in question.
