The NASD has expressed no interest in partnering with the New York Stock Exchange to form a joint regulatory unit to police the brokerage industry. According to The Wall Street Journal, the NASD has pointed out that as the NYSE will soon become a public company, it should have no regulatory role in a projected not-for-profit entity.

“Any improved regulatory model must be free of the inherent conflicts of both owning and regulating a for-profit exchange,” an NASD spokeswoman told The WSJ.
