Malaysia: Employees Provident Fund Plans To Focus On Private Equity Deals

Malaysia’s Employees Provident Fund’s Deputy CEO Roslan A. Ghaffar said that the fund is planning to increase is focus on private equity deals.

Malaysia’s Employees Provident Fund’s Deputy CEO Roslan A. Ghaffar said that the fund is planning to increase is focus on private equity deals. Ghaffar said that the fund has decided to make a total allocation of MYR1 billion for private equity deals and targets to roll out MYR250 million of funds by the end of this year. Ghaffar, at the same time on a cautionary note, said that the nature of this private equity investments was different and since these investments were illiquid, such as bonds or stocks, the fund would go cautious in analysing and do adequate due diligence, while making an investment decision. So far EPF has invested around MYR 98 million in private equities.
