The Oscar Mayer family office has solidified a joint venture with multi-family office Vogel Consulting and Vogel is currently in talks to link up with another well-known Midwest single-family office. According to Barbara Pope, office head for Oscar Mayer, the firms are pooling their technology and staffing resources and Vogel is working as a consultant to three to five separate families within the Mayer family on special projects. "This is an opportunity to take advantage of Vogel's technology and staffing," said Pope, adding that a potential merger could take place over the next five to seven years. The deal has been in the works for a while (PAM, 3/25).
Tom Meilinger, director of business services at Vogel, would not elaborate on its future JV plans but said the firm is looking to link up with another family office to provide a similarly broad range of services and back office work. Vogel is sharing space with the Mayer family in Chicago and plans to open a separate office this month. "The driver here is that we were looking for an opportunity to partner with another strong firm that would provide continuity and to really meet the concerns that both the family and I had," Pope said. The two firms have a shared technology base and shared back office platforms. Vogel has $2.8 billion in assets under advisement.
