Financial Institutions – Consumer Finance: Third 2012

Kenneth Bruce
Bank of America Merrill Lynch

San Francisco–based Kenneth Bruce of Bank of America Merrill Lynch is No. 3 for a third year running. “Ken’s knowledge and analyses help us navigate the sector’s intricacies and generate returns for our investors,” remarks one portfolio manager. Bruce initiated coverage on Ocwen Financial Corp. in mid-December with a buy rating, at $13.59, arguing that the Atlanta-based distressed-loan servicer was well positioned to leverage its low-cost platform to gain share and drive earnings. In August the company reported that second-quarter revenue had rocketed 99.8 percent year-over-year, to $211.4 million. By the end of that month, the stock had catapulted 89.3 percent, to $25.73, and beat the sector by 57 percentage points, through August. Bruce, who actively tracks 33 stocks, still recommends it. “Ken understands how to pick a stock — it’s just that simple,” asserts another fan.
