Hedge Fund Rising Stars: Vinay Nair

Vinay Nair
Ada Investments

Ada Investments’ March investor symposium was filled with noted academics, quantitative experts and investment professionals, including Columbia Business School dean and former Council of Economic Advisers chairman R. Glenn Hubbard — who serves as an adviser to Ada. The gathering was arranged by Ada’s founding partner, Vinay Nair, who at 34 has coauthored a book on sustainable investing, is an adjunct associate professor of finance and economics at Columbia, and was an assistant finance professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Before founding Ada in 2008, Nair was research director and a portfolio manager at Old Lane Partners, the hedge fund firm that was co-founded by Vikram Pandit and a group of former Morgan Stanley executives and was acquired by Citigroup in 2007. Ada combines a systematic approach to investing with research into sustainability and behavioral finance. For the past few years, Ada has been testing its strategies before seeking additional capital. More Renaissance man than finance geek, Nair also plays the saxophone, has hosted radio shows in India and New York, and played on the cricket team of his alma mater, the Indian Institute of Technology.
