Hedge Fund Rising Stars: Laurie Katz

Laurie Katz
GoldenTree Asset Management

When CIO Steven Tananbaum founded GoldenTree Asset Management, in 2000, Laurie Katz was a day-one employee. Katz, who had previously worked as an associate and assistant trader at First Dominion, started out on the trading desk. She subsequently moved over to a marketing and business development role, helping to build up the firm’s operations and client-services departments. Today she is responsible for the $16 billion, credit-focused firm’s institutional and family office investor relationships. Proving that time spent in the trading trenches still has value, investors say they respect Katz’s investment acumen and knowledge of the credit markets. A New York University graduate, Katz, 36, is active in the hedge fund philanthropic community. She has taken an active role in the networking and mentoring organization 100 Women in Hedge Funds, and for the past three years has co-chaired an annual fundraising event for High Water Women, a charitable group for at-risk women and youth.
