Citi’s P.J. Juvekar, who repeats in second place, “works tirelessly at staying on top of his game,” proclaims one buy-side enthusiast. The analyst, who publishes research on 20 companies, upgraded Valspar Corp. from neutral to buy in October 2011, at $33.54, making the case that the Minneapolis-based manufacturer of paints and coatings would benefit from growing demand from builders and a slowdown in raw-materials price increases. The stock soared 59 percent, to $53.34, through August, and Juvekar remains bullish. “P.J. is an icon in this industry, and his research has led to more than a few great ideas in our fund,” vouches a grateful investor.
