Andrea Teixeira & team J.P. Morgan

The buy side says: “Andrea supports every opinion — with no sugar coating.”

J .P. Morgan bounds from third place to land in the winner’s circle for the first time since 1998. The three-member team is captained these days by New York–based Andrea Teixeira, who also helms a runner-up squad in Health Care. With 20 stocks under coverage, the analysts manage to be “a good proxy for talking to the companies myself, which is helpful,” explains one booster. In January the team upgraded Chile’s S.A.C.I. Falabella from neutral to overweight, at 4,176.37 pesos, as a likely beneficiary of a rise in consumer spending thanks to that country’s moderate inflation, low interest rates and low unemployment. By mid-July shares of the department- and home-improvement store operator had climbed 8.1 percent, to 4,514.40 pesos, and led the sector by 26.9 percentage points. Teixeira, 38, joined J.P. Morgan in 2004 from Banc of America Securities, where she worked as an associate covering alternative fuels and the automobile industry. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business. — Ben Mattlin
