Technology, Media & Telecommunications –Data Networking & Wireline Equipment: Third

 Brian Modoff

Deutsche Bank Securities

Brian Modoff debuted as a runner-up in 2011 and this year rises to third place. Clients praise the Deutsche Bank Securities analyst’s “unique insights,” as one money manager puts it, as well as his consistent backing of F5 Networks, a Seattle-based provider of data storage and network security solutions. Modoff, who also finishes third in Telecom Equipment/Wireless, has been recommending the stock since September 2009, when the shares were trading at $35.43, dubbing the company a likely beneficiary of the trend toward cloud computing. By the end of August 2012, the shares had skyrocketed 175.2 percent, to $97.49 — gaining 19.5 percent in the past 12 months alone.
