It looks as though Kenya will in fact be joining the SWF club in the near future. According to Kenya’s Minister of State for the Civil Service Dalmas Otieno:
“It is our intention that profits accrued from these state corporations are managed under the sovereign wealth fund...This way, we shall be able to transform state-owned enterprises into regional commercial players as some other countries have done.”
Kenya’s Cabinet will have a new draft law in front of them that will outline the creation of the new sovereign wealth fund within two months. Welcome, Kenya, to the SWF club.
