The 2014 Latin America Research Team: Health Care, No. 3: Andrea Teixeira & team

Andrea Teixeira & team J.P. Morgan First-place appearances: 0

Total appearances: 4

Team debut: 2011 Andrea Teixeira steers her J.P. Morgan trio to a repeat second-place finish. Based in New York, Teixeira directs colleagues in Mexico City and São Paulo in monitoring seven Latin American health care names. Investors appreciate the team’s reach. “Andrea’s network of contacts is truly impressive and provides us unparalleled access to corporate managers and government regulators,” one money manager says. In January the three researchers upgraded Brazil’s Raia Drogasil from neutral to overweight, crediting the drugstore chain operator’s plans to open 130 new outlets per year. By late July the shares had surged 41.9 percent, to 19.45 reais, outperforming its regional peers by 27.5 percentage points. J.P. Morgan’s analysts continue to dub Raia Drogasil a top pick, assigning it a price objective of 22.00 reais. Another favorite is Brazilian drugmaker Hypermarcas, a defensive play in light of rising health care costs. This year, Teixeira also directs the No. 1 team in Retailing and a runner-up troupe in Food & Beverages.
