Team debut: 2012Adam Jonas continues his steady march up this ranking. The Morgan Stanley researcher debuted in 2012 as a runner-up, climbed to third place last year and now steps up to claim the No. 2 position. Money managers single out for praise his 109-page study of autonomous, or self-driving, autos. Published in November, the piece provided a “global perspective and thorough treatment of the important investment controversies,” one reader recalls. Other clients applaud Jonas’s “video research work, [which] visually highlights many of the new models’ pros and cons, including detailed commentary,” one advocate reports, referring to an ongoing series of “virtual field trips” the analyst and his team record at auto shows and other industry events. Jonas, who tracks 26 U.S. autos and auto parts companies, currently recommends overweighting Harley-Davidson. He has been bullish on the Milwaukee-based motorcycle manufacturer since launching coverage in May 2013, anticipating rising demand. In mid-September the stock was trading at $64.43, up 19.5 percent over the life of the call though lagging the sector by 4 percentage points. He projects that the shares will rise to $77.
