Bruce Hamilton became leader of the Morgan Stanley squad in 2007 and piloted the team to third place that year. In 2010 the firm returned to the top of the roster for the first time in five years, and it’s been No. 1 every year since with the exception of 2012, when it slipped to second place.
Hamilton, 40, says “intellectual curiosity” drew him to equity research.
“I have a background and degree in history so have always enjoyed analysis, and I appreciate the opportunity to meet with successful business managers and smart money managers,” says Hamilton, who works out of London. The best part of the job, he adds, is visiting clients and writing research — but there is a downside. “Seeing the kids remains a constant challenge,” he notes.
Hamilton predicts that 2014 could be a year of high volatility owing to slowing growth in China, the cutback in the U.S. Federal Reserve’s program of quantitative easing, economic vulnerabilities in emerging markets and deflation in Europe and elsewhere — “all of which carry potential risks,” he asserts.Read His Profile
