Analyst debut: 2014Newcomer Yue Ding of China International Capital Corp. joins this roster in third place. Based in Shanghai, she actively tracks 20 Chinese metals and mining companies, plus 18 infrastructure and transportation names. “Yue is an energetic analyst, always quick to answer questions and reliably knowledgeable,” attests one admirer. In October 2013, Ding upgraded Anshan-based Angang Steel Co. from neutral to buy at HK$4.50, largely thanks to capacity and cost controls. Sure enough, by last month the stock had leaped 29.7 percent, to HK5.81, outperforming the broad market by 22.3 percentage points. Going forward, however, the analyst is cautious on the steel producer. “The valuation is not so attractive, and the demand for next year has no growth,” she says, because of “weak real estate investment. We suggest investors take profits.”
