Country & Regions – Hong Kong: Third

Kai Tong (Cusson) Leung & team

Credit Suisse

“Frequent phone calls and good trading ideas,” according to one investor, help Kai Tong (Cusson) Leung’s Credit Suisse crew advance from runner-up to third place. The ten-member squad, which is headquartered in Hong Kong, reports on 70 stocks. In May 2012 the analysts launched coverage on Wheelock and Co. with an outperform rating, judging the Central Hong Kong–based property developer’s shares undervalued at HK$24.64 — especially given strong sales of its newest properties. The stock catapulted 75.3 percent, to HK$43.20, and shot past the Hang Seng Index by 62.9 percentage points, through April. For the year ahead the team favors such transportation stocks as Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific Airways, on an anticipated pickup in business travel and stable fuel prices. Leung, who also pilots a runner-up team in Conglomerates, “is different from other analysts in the way he sees through company drivers,” asserts one fund manager in Hong Kong.. — Ben Mattlin
