Topping the roster for a second year running is BTG Pactual’s Carlos Eduardo Sequeira, who also earns a runner-up spot in Equity Strategy. “He is one of the most experienced analysts covering this sector,” declares one buy-side supporter. Sequeira, 41, follows 13 stocks from his office in Rio de Janeiro and plans to add one or two names by the end of the year — despite his generally pessimistic outlook. “The sector is barely growing. In fact, growth is decelerating sharply,” he reports. “The competitive environment is tough in Brazil.” One potential bright spot: Telefônica Brasil. Sequeira recommends the São Paulo–based provider of telecommunications services for its “top-quality mobile operations, strong cash-flow generation and high dividend payments.” The shares were trading at 41.50 reais in mid-July; the analyst has a target price of 62 reais. “His valuations and reports are always very realistic, careful and independent,” attests another backer. — Pam Baker |
