Today highly talented financial professionals are finding their way out of large institutions, looking to develop their own franchises. In a challenging fundraising environment for hedge funds, money management firms see the potential in seeding or staking such talent. Thats what Mariner Investment Group aims to do with its new investment platform, and Eric Pellicciaro is one of the first portfolio managers with which the $10 billion, New Yorkbased alternative-investment adviser has chosen to work. A 16-year veteran of asset management giant BlackRock, Pellicciaro, 38, joined Mariner this spring from the firms New York office, where he had most recently been head of global rates investments. His extensive experience in managing clients money makes him stand out in an industry heavily populated by former bank and hedge fund traders. Drawing on a background that includes investing in sovereign credit and mortgage-backed securities, Pellicciaro, who hails from Queens, New York, and has a bachelors degree in finance and computer science from St. Johns University, will run a global macro portfolio. |
