Sara Cotton
Bessemer Trust

Sara Cotton majored in economics at Barnard College in New York, but she also had an interest in art history. After graduation she chose to pursue this second passion. Having interned at New York’s Museum of Modern Art during her senior year, Cotton secured a job with the trusts and estates group of art auction house Sotheby’s in 1999. There she came into contact with Bessemer Trust, a New York–based boutique investment advisory business with $88.2 billion in assets under supervision that caters to ultra-high-net-worth and wealthy families. Cotton, 34, joined the firm in early 2001 as a junior research analyst in the fund-of-hedge-funds group. She left Bessemer for a brief stint at a Washington hedge fund but returned in 2005 and is now a senior hedge fund analyst. Managers praise Cotton as a diligent and knowledgeable investor with strong analytical skills.
