New York–based Pagoda Asset Management was formed in 2014 by three alumni of hedge fund firm Highbridge Capital Management, a subsidiary of JPMorgan Chase & Co. Pagoda CIO Adam Bernstein, COO Mark Hoffman and senior analyst Glenn Vogelman had all been senior employees in the equities group at New York–based Highbridge; Bernstein, 36, was the portfolio manager and sector head in telecom, media, technology and consumer. Pagoda is a low-net long-short equity fund with a value bias focused on the consumer and TMT sectors, and Bernstein, Hoffman and Vogelman’s long relationship — they’ve worked together for more than seven years — contributed to the buzz around their launch. The firm has around $100 million in assets. Bernstein, who has a BS in accounting and finance from New York University, spent almost nine years at Highbridge and was previously an associate with RBC Capital Markets. At Highbridge he oversaw one of the firm’s most profitable equity portfolios.
