CIO of J. Paul Getty Trust Announces Retirement

Jim Williams has been the Getty Trust’s investment chief since 2002.

James (Jim) Williams, the longtime CIO of the J. Paul Getty Trust, is retiring.

Institutional Investor learned that Williams, who has been with the trust since December 2002, shared the news with his team this week. He was the first chief investment officer for the fund.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the nearly $9 billion foundation will be launching a “global search” for its new investment chief.

Williams has been the J. Paul Getty Trust’s CIO and vice president since he joined and was appointed treasurer in May 2006.

Prior to joining the Getty Trust, Williams spent three years as president of Harbor Capital Advisors, and president of Harbor’s family of mutual funds. His career in investments began at the Ford Motor Company, where he served as a manager in the pension asset management department.

Williams studied engineering at the University of Michigan and has an MBA in finance from the University of Chicago.
