The inaugural issue of Rising Stars of Real Estate spotlights 20 upcoming, dedicated, young professionals nominated by their peers as the best in class among a variety of sectors in the real estate industry. Our impressive nominees were selected based on the following attributes under 45 years of age, who demonstrate impressive credentials and experience with a consistency that indicates they will be the ones to watch as leaders and trend setters in the industry going forward.

Institutional Investor News’ inaugural sweep turned up real estate professionals across the nation who work in all segments of the industry such as real estate investment trusts, investment banks, private investment vehicles and money management firms, and a research firm. The individuals specialize in commercial mortgage-backed securities, collateralized debt obligations, large-loan origination, marina and “dockominium” financing, and a host of other concentrations.

Noteworthy points about this year’s nominees:

  • 30% work for investment banks, 25% for investment firms, 20% for REITs, 20% for property owners/managers and one nominee runs his own real estate research firm;
  • The average age is 38 (with the youngest 27 years old and the eldest 44);
  • 75% work in New York and 85% work on the East Coast;
  • Women represent 10% of the overall group;
  • Two nominees work at firms started by their fathers.
Selecting the final 20 Rising Stars was a difficult task. Many outstanding individuals were recommended for the list. We thank the nominees and those who did the nominating for making this list possible and look forward to charting the professional progress of these Rising Stars in the years to come.

Please also note a special feature at the back of the book called our Mentors’Page—a place where II News gives particular thanks and a spotlight to those senior professionals who fostered our nominees’ skills and careers.
