From opening bells to wedding bells. So it goes for Lori Appelbaum, the bank stock analyst who is leaving Goldman Sachs this month after nine straight years ranked atop the Large-Cap Banks category on II’s annual All-America Research Team. But Appelbaum isn’t straying too far from finance. This spring she plans to marry David Moffett, who retired as vice chairman of Minneapolis-based U.S. Bancorp last year. Appelbaum has long touted her access to senior management. As she told us in a 2006 article, “Close relationships with managements are a big part of the extra value I bring.” She added: “Because I’ve known these people for a long time, I can pick up signs that they are starting to get interested in entering a new product area or geography. I can read their body language and confidence levels.” Indeed.
