Steven Bonanno, chief technology officer of Direct Edge, is seeking to resign from his current role, The Wall Street Journal reports. Bonanno, who had joined the New Jersey-based stock exchange operator in September 2007, will exit in May 2011.

The company has hired Protiviti, a unit of Robert Half International, to conduct the search for candidates. Prior to joining Direct Edge, Bonanno was a vice president of technology at Right Media and has also worked at Nasdaq OMX, Brut, MarketXT and Instinet.
