The South African Reserve Bank has recruited Rene van Wyk as the registrar of banks, Reuters reports. He will take up his new position from November 1.

Wyk will take over from interim registrar Michael Backbeard, who took charge after Errol Kruger left at the end of July. Previously, Wyk was associated with Nedbank and has held a series of senior positions in the firm.
