Fitch Ratings reports that at least of France’s six largest banks may still need state aid while four of the others have “high unsupported” issuer default ratings (IDR) and one is questionable. In giving the French banking sector an overall stable outlook, Fitch noted that “any reduction in the state’s propensity to support banks would be negative” for Groupe BPCE, while “not necessarily” for La Banque Postale “given its ownership structure.”
