Bank of Italy Governor, Mario Draghi, may be appointed as the head of the European Central Bank (ECB), Bloomberg reports. He will succeed the current chief, Jean-Claude Trichet, who is set to step down. The Governor may get support from French president, Nicolas Sarkozy. Draghi has also worked as a top executive at U.S. investment bank, Goldman Sachs, adds AFP. The head of Germany’s central bank, Axel Weber, who was the frontrunner for the job, has stepped out of the race.
