Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission has approved the merger of Ohio-based FirstEnergy with Pennsylvania-based Allegheny Energy. As per the agreement, four electric utilities in Pennsylvania will have the same parent company, adds Bloomberg.

The merged company will include 10 electric utilities serving 6 million customers in seven states. FirstEnergy will locate regional headquarters for Maryland and West Virginia utility operations in Washington County and Fairmont, respectively.
