Standard & Poor’s says the mortgage-serving settlements proposed by the 50 states attorneys general poses potential problems that would outweigh the benefits. S&P, which gave the proposal a negative review, said while the settlement may enhance transparency and make for a more efficient servicing process, it may also hurt the recovery of the mortgage banking industry as it could extend foreclosure and resolution times lines and result in potentially greater loan losses.
