The O’Sullivan Foundation has granted a total of $5 million to the Khan Academy. The money has been given to speed up development of the nonprofit’s offbeat approach to education in schools outside California and the U.S.

Financial support from the foundation will be used for laying the groundwork for three main educational initiatives. The Khan Academy was started as one man's effort to help his cousin in math over the Internet via YouTube.
