Hope Now reports more than 1.75 million homeowners received loan modifications in 2010, a 42% increase from the preceding year. Of the total, only about 29% were completed through the Department of Treasury’s Home Affordable Mortgage Program, even though the HAMP figure represents an eight-fold increase from 2009. Reduced principal and interest payments accounted for approximately 81% ($1 million) of all the modifications.
