CRE Lending Inches Up In Q4

Major banks increased business property lending in the fourth quarter as they now are making inroads into a sector that previously was dominated by smaller, community financial institutions, reports National Mortgage News.

Major banks increased business property lending in the fourth quarter as they now are making inroads into a sector that previously was dominated by smaller, community financial institutions. U.S. Bancorp and M&T Bank saw commercial property lending rise 3% in the quarter, for example, while Wells Fargo upped its activity by 1%. Many community lenders have abandoned the field after they were burnt by business loans that went bad during the financial crisis.
