SECOND TEAM

Yuko Maruyama Nomura Securities Co.

Yuko Maruyama lands in second place for a second straight year, impressing clients with her “wide stock coverage” and “keen, penetrating insights.” The Nomura Securities Co. analyst correctly gauged the surging global demand for cloud computing and virtualization. Accordingly, she advised investors to buy shares of Net One Systems Co. in November, at ¥107,900, believing that the Tokyo-based company would see strong order recovery with the uptake of these two trends. In January the company reported that consolidated revenue for the fiscal third quarter, which ended December 31, had shot up 17.6 percent year-over-year, from ¥25 billion ($30.7 million) to ¥29.4 billion, and operating income had skyrocketed to ¥866 million from a loss of ¥280 million. Through February the stock rose 21.5 percent, to ¥131,100, and edged past the sector by 6.3 percentage points.

Polling and tabulation of data as well as reporting on the sector profiles were completed before the March 11 Tohoku earthquake.
