U.S. publisher, MediaNews Group, is planning to merge with Freedom Communications and several other newspaper companies, The Wall Street Journal reports. The Colorado-based company’s holding company, Affiliated Media, filed for bankruptcy protection a year ago.
Affiliated Media came out of bankruptcy under the ownership of investment firm, Alden Global Capital, which also is part of a group of lenders that owns Freedom Communications. Alden is looking to combine at least some of its various newspaper holdings into a single company
