After a three-year run at No. 1, Khoi Le Binh and his five-strong crew at Deutsche Bank drop to third place. Yet the Hong Kong–based contingent maintains a loyal following, particularly for “specializing in multiasset investments such as equities, fixed income and currencies,” says one money manager, who lauds their guidance on “how to pick and choose among the mix in developing a portfolio. Also, they are very nimble and timely” in constructing their models. For his part, Le Binh, 42, advises that “in this highly uncertainty environment, when timing portfolios is proving to be difficult, we remain believers in balanced approaches.” Across the Asia ex-Japan region, the researchers are urging clients to stay the course and invest in high-quality companies that have managed to add value. These names are characterized by their “positive analyst sentiment, earnings growth and low bankruptcy risk,” he says. At the same time, investors should “look at diversifying strategies” by, for example, leveraging new data sources that disclose where insider purchases are occurring to construct a portfolio with high-conviction, event-driven stocks.
