Deutsche Bank retains the No. 1 spot in the 2012 Top Global Research Firms: Year to Date ranking, which lists firms by the total team positions won in all Institutional Investor research team surveys published thus far: the All-Europe Research Team, the All-Europe Fixed-Income Research Team and the All-Japan Research Team.

Thanks to its strong showing in the Europe equity survey as well as vigorous gains in Japan, Deutsche claims 73 positions. More than one third of those — 27 — are for analysts considered the best in their respective sectors. That’s more than double the number of first-place analysts claimed by any other firm so far this year; the next-closest contenders are UBS and J.P. Morgan, with 12 No. 1 analysts each.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch is in second place overall, with 60 positions, followed by UBS in third, with 54.

II will update this table on April 30, when the results of the 2012 All-China Research Team are released, and then in May when we reveal the winners of this year’s All-Asia and All-India research teams.
