Edmo Chagas & team BTG Pactual

Rising from runner-up to No. 3 is BTG Pactual’s threesome steered by Rio de Janeiro–based Edmo Chagas, who also pilots a runner-up team in Metals & Mining. Monitoring a dozen companies, they upgraded Klabin from neutral to buy way back in December 2010, at 5.17 reais, largely on optimism over its then-new chief executive officer, Fabio Schvartsman, an outsider with a track record of instituting cost savings. Good call. By mid-July 2012 the Brazilian box manufacturer’s shares had skyrocketed a stunning 75.6 percent, to 9.08 reais, and soared past the sector by 111.9 percentage points. “They stuck to their guns and were proved right,” cheers one grateful adherent. — Ben Mattlin
