Credit Suisse combined its two fund-of-fund businesses – Credit Suisse Alternative Management and Credit Suisse First Boston Alternative Capital – in January 2006 as part of a bank-wide integration of the CSFB investment banking arm into the parent company. Assets for CSFB Alternative Capital jumped from $7.93 billion to $20 billion overnight. Bennett Goodman, who had served as chairman of CSFB Merchant Banking and Leveraged Finance, ran the bank’s new alternatives business for a year before co-founding New York–based hedge fund firm GSO Capital Partners in 2005.
