After spending a year in second place, UBS researcher Brent Thill slips back to the No. 3 spot he held in 2013. Working out of San Francisco, he reports on 31 software names and maintain an upbeat outlook on the wider group. “We remain positive on the fundamentals of software, considering the group continues to gain market share versus other areas of technology,” says Thill, 43. “Ongoing shift to cloud and software as a service, or SaaS, continues to move quicker than the established software companies would like, leaving smaller, start-up companies a big opportunity to take share.”
