Morgan Stanley analyst Vincent Andrews III earns second-place honors for a third year running. The 41-year-old researcher produces “the go-to notes that are must-reads,” one portfolio manager insists. “He’s able to engage both generalist and expert audiences.” Andrews has been touting Cleveland-based Sherwin-Williams Co. as among the outperformers in the pool of 25 names he monitors. The paints and coatings producer is deepening its penetration into the do-it-yourself market, he advises, and benefiting from declining raw-materials costs. Elevated from underweight to overweight in April 2013, on valuation, the stock had soared 48.2 percent by the middle of last month, to $246.65, besting U.S. chemicals names broadly by 33.5 percentage points. During the trailing 12 months, it rose 13.3 percent, against the sector’s 15.7 percent decline. He sees the shares reaching $320. Andrews’s ”frequent, in-depth supply-demand studies are critical in this commodities-driven business,” asserts another backer.
