Total appearances: 4
Team debut: 2008Ferry Wong, 41, guides his Citi squad to a second consecutive third-place finish. Working out of Jakarta, the seven researchers are “always happy to answer our queries, with a willingness that’s remarkable,” says one portfolio manager. They report on 60 Indonesian names, ten more than a year ago, and have of late been touting United Tractors, a Jakarta-based supplier of heavy machinery. In October the team elevated the stock from neutral to buy, citing the company’s increased diversification and strong performance from mining contracts. Through April it surged 21.1 percent, to 21,400 rupiah, while the domestic broad market slipped 1.5 percent. Another recent favorite is Jakarta’s Link Net, which the analysts began reporting on in February, assigning the shares a buy rating because the high-speed Internet services provider has been increasing its market penetration. By the end of last month, the stock had risen 9.8 percent, to 5,625 rupiah, outperforming its national peers by 18.8 percentage points. Wong and his colleagues believe that a price of 7,200 rupiah is justified.
