Mark Troman took charge of the team covering predecessor sector Engineering & Machinery in 2004 and secured a runner-up position for the firm that year. By 2008 the analysts were champions of the category, which by then had been renamed Capital Goods, and the bank was credited with its first sector-topping appearance since 1999.

Troman, 43, and his teammates are back at No. 1 after three consecutive years in second place. The London-based analyst earned a master’s degree in engineering science at England’s University of Cambridge and worked in engineering and finance before “following one of my former colleagues into the equity research world,” he says. Smart move. Troman has since led teams that have ranked 11 times on the All-Europe Research Team.

What is his favorite part of the job? “I enjoy debating investment ideas,” he responds. His least favorite: “I’m not so keen on company results at 5:00 a.m.,” he admits.Read His Profile
